12 | Level Up ✨ Your Email Opt-in Strategy for Teacherpreneurs
Are you making the most of your free lead magnet? Building your email list has a ton of benefits as your grow your business. No matter what happens to any other platform, that email list is yours! You can use it to nurture. You can use it to sell. You can use it to build relationships. Here’s my top 5 tips to make the most of that free lead magnet.
Once your lead magnet has started gaining some interest and you have a strategy in place to be emailing these new subscribers regularly, these 5 tips will help you take your opt-ins to the next level.
A Welcome Sequence - this series of 3-5 emails that is sent automatically after someone opts-in should send them the freebie, introduce you, invite them to follow you on social media and possibly even offer something for them to buy.
Use UTM Codes - these allow you to track where traffic is coming from so that you can determine which campaigns are most effective. Are you getting the bulk of your subscribers from FB, IG or Pinterest? Without UTM codes it can be impossible to know for sure.
A/B Testing - it’s important to be sure your landing page is converting as high as possible, so test out different wording, different images, and different calls to action to find what works the best. Be sure to only change one thing at a time, so you know for sure what made the biggest impact. Also, be sure that your landing page is optimized for mobile. We usually create these webpages on a computer, and they look drastically different on mobile. Since more than 50% of people will likely end up on your landing page via a mobile app, it’s important for you to optimize for that experience.
Pixel the Landing Page - long before you start running ads, you should be sure to add the pixel to your landing page. This allows you to start collecting data. The more data FB has, the better it is able to find the perfect people to send your way.
Start Running Ads - FB ads are an amazing traffic generation tool and can really help you grow your email list. It is very important you’ve complete steps 1-4 prior to starting ads to ensure you’re getting them most value.

Hello, hello. Welcome to episode number 12. Today's strategy session is a level up and we are going to be talking about levelling up your email often. For this episode to be truly impactful, you should already have some sort of lead magnet that you are using to collect email addresses. Whether it is a freebie, a PDF or some sort of digital activity or a free library of resources that your subscribers have access to, it should be up and running and collecting at least some emails before you do that. You should also be engaging with your email subscribers on a regular basis. Today, I'm going to be giving you five tips to take your email opt-in to the next level once you have that lead magnet set up and you are emailing your list on a regular basis.
So, tip number one is a welcome sequence. When somebody opts-in to your email list, you should have a couple, three, maybe five different emails that really introduce you and give people an idea of what they're going to get and potentially offer a paid something paid product, paid service, paid course, that they would be interested in based on the freebie. So, if you don't already have a welcome sequence, then I highly recommend you get that in place as my first tip.
Tip number two for levelling up your email often is to be using UTM codes. UTM codes are used to track the URL basically. So you can create these with UTM builders that you find online. So, the UTM has five different variants that you can add to the end of the URL to help track how your campaign or how your lead magnet is doing. So there's the source, medium, campaign, term, and content. The most important ones are the source. So that is Facebook or Instagram or Twitter or email or wherever the source, the place where you're putting your email out. The medium is likely going to be social, but it could be paid, referral, a podcast guest- what is the type of campaign that this is? The campaign would actually be the name of the campaign that you're running. So maybe this is your spring 2021 lead magnet, or it could be an end of the year campaign. So that's the name. So those three, the source, medium, and campaign are going to be the most important to help you to track your lead magnet, to know whether putting it out on Pinterest or putting it out on Instagram is more effective. Using the UTM code is just going to give you that piece of data that will help you to understand what's working and what isn't working in your business. If you know anything about me, you know how important data is to me and really understanding what is working through the numbers and to be using those numbers in that data to really make your decisions.
Number three is to do some AB testing, specifically of your landing page. By AB testing, I mean having different variations and you can do simultaneous AB testing, where you have two landing pages that are out there at the same time, or you can just be making tweaks and changes to one landing page to try and improve it. The most impactful thing that you can do are changing the title to be more enticing, changing the location of the actual opt-in form. You want it to be above the fold so that it's easy to see and people don't need to be scrolling and scrolling and scrolling. You can add in testimonials and you can change images. I highly recommend if you're going to be using this to level up your email opt-in, that you do one change at a time and track it and test it for a bit time before you decide to make another change so that you can really decide, okay, was title A or title B more successful. Again, back to that data you want to be looking at and really using the numbers. Were more people opting in when your title was title A or were more people opting in percentage-wise with title B?
Tip number four, to be levelling up your email opt-in is to make sure you have pixeled it. Getting the Facebook pixel on your landing page is really important. It will help to track the people who are visiting that landing page so you can create buckets of audiences later on down the road when you have products to sell or a course to sell, you can use that group of people who've shown interest in your specific freebie, whether or not they opted in. Pixeling it also allows you to run conversion ads, which we'll talk about in just one second. So the pixel is really going to help you to take that email opt-in to the next level. If you are going to be running Facebook ads.
Which brings me to tip number five, which is to be running paid traffic to your email opt-in. I don't suggest you start running paid traffic there until you have proven to yourself that it is converting at a level that you are comfortable with, whether that is 30 or 40 or 50% of people who land on the page are opting in. Once you have done that AB testing and found the perfect headline and the perfect title and the perfect location of your form, then you can use tip number five and start driving more traffic thereby paying for Facebook ads, because you know that the page is converting at a high level and that you are going to be getting a good number of new subscribers on for a low cost per lead.
So just to recap, my five tips for levelling up your email opt-in are: #1. Make sure you have a welcome sequence. #2. Using UTM codes to track the source, medium, and campaigns so that you really know which ones are the most effective. Tip #3. Is to do AB testing of your headline, images, form location, and other pieces of your landing page so that it is converting really, really well. Tip #4. Is to add the Facebook pixel and Tip #5. Is to run paid traffic to increase the number of subscribers that you have.
